Kentucky Shotokan Karate-Do was founded in Richmond Kentucky in 2013 by Matthew Pettus with the goal of providing the best instruction in traditional Shotokan Karate. Our classes focus on student teacher interaction, so our class size is consistently small. We focus extensively on building a strong foundation in karate and through hard work building the character of our students.

Who is our Instructor?
Our head is instructor is Matthew Pettus. Mr. Pettus has 25 years experience in the martial arts and over 20 years teaching experience. He has competed at the state, national, and international levels. Mr. Pettus has trained with some of the best instructors of our time including; Sensei Nishiyama, Sensei Sugiyama, and Sensei Di Pasquele. He has trained hundreds of students that have gone on to train at the highest levels themselves. Mr. Pettus is friendly and promotes an atmosphere of fun and learning. Both children and adults will find Mr. Pettus's classes challenging and fun.
